Carole Francis BA - Artist and Sculptor

I am a multi disciplined artist whose practise spans painting and sculpture. Guided by instinct I refuse to be confined to a single medium. Instead, I mixed materials fluidly, allowing the physical process of creation to mirror the complex layered nature of identity.
My work explores how we define ourselves, specifically investigating the social constructs of skin colour. I examine how rigid definitions of “black” and “white” have historically fuelled discrimination and shaped our social conditioning. By breaking away from this binary, my art reframes humanity as a spectrum of textures and tones. I prefer to view the human race as rich variations of brown - challenging the labels that divide us and inviting the viewer to see our shared existence through a more nuanced instinctive lens.
